Overview
The Henry County District Attorney’s Office, located in the Flint Judicial Circuit approximately 30 minutes south of Atlanta, is seeking an Assistant District Attorney for the Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Unit. This position offers the option for remote work when court schedules permit, following an initial training and adjustment period.
Responsibilities
- Review reports and case files submitted by law enforcement.
- Determine the need for further investigation.
- Research alternative or additional charges and relevant case law.
- Draft indictments and dismiss cases that are not prosecutable.
- Present cases to the grand jury, including questioning witnesses and responding to jurors’ questions.
- Collaborate with the trial team, including investigators, victim advocates, and trial assistants.
- Work closely with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
- Determine appropriate sentence recommendations.
- Evaluate and research potential defenses.
- Negotiate plea agreements to resolve cases.
- Develop trial plans and strategies.
- Subpoena witnesses for motions and trials.
- File motions within appropriate timeframes prior to trial.
- Comply with discovery requirements.
- Research and argue all pretrial motions.
- Prepare for and conduct trials for cases that cannot be resolved otherwise.
Requirements
- Must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia or a member in good standing of another state’s bar association eligible for reciprocity admission to the State Bar of Georgia.
- Must be admitted to practice before the Georgia Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.
- Subject to background check, fingerprinting, criminal history background check, motor vehicle driver’s history check, and pre-employment drug screening.
- Employment contingent upon satisfactory completion of all investigations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience handling domestic violence and sexual assault cases.
Compensation
- Salary commensurate with experience.
