Overview

An organization specializing in the strategic and operational management of ambulatory surgery centers is seeking an Assistant General Counsel. This fully remote role supports a clinician-led network of over 250 surgery centers across the U.S., covering specialties such as gastroenterology, ophthalmology, and orthopedics. The Assistant General Counsel will provide legal advice and counsel on a broad range of business and operational matters.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on legal issues related to day-to-day operations and business arrangements
  • Identify legal risks and develop proactive compliance strategies
  • Provide strategic and tactical legal advice on operational, contracting, and transactional matters
  • Conduct legal research and analysis; prepare written opinions and guidance for management and internal teams
  • Draft, review, and assist in negotiating agreements with partners, health insurance companies, vendors, and government entities
  • Support attorneys, compliance teams, and business partners in resolving legal, regulatory, and compliance issues
  • Assist in representing the organization in informal dispute resolution, mediation, and administrative proceedings
  • Participate in special projects and perform other related duties as assigned
  • Act as liaison between management and internal or external legal experts on specialized matters
  • Demonstrate commitment to corporate compliance programs, policies, and procedures

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and licensed attorney status
  • Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, preferably in a healthcare environment
  • High-level analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong project management and organizational abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet aggressive deadlines
  • Agile and flexible thinker with the ability to quickly learn emerging legal and business areas
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Strong relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders
  • Commitment to personal and professional growth and openness to feedback
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing demands in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • High integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and occasional weekends as needed

Compensation & Benefits

  • Eligibility for enrollment in health and welfare benefits after 30 days of employment, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, various FSAs, HSAs, and a matching 401(k) plan
  • Paid time off accrual ranging from 20 to 25 days per calendar year depending on position
  • Nine observed holidays and paid family leave
