Overview
This role involves consulting with and advising the organization on appropriate legal actions within assigned practice areas. Responsibilities may include management and budget oversight, and participation as a member of the extended leadership team for the department.
Responsibilities
- Manage legal matters for various in-house stakeholders, including senior management, within designated practice areas.
- Analyze complex problems involving multiple factors impacting significant areas of the organization.
- Provide legal advice on issues affecting major functional areas.
- Negotiate challenging disputes with potential serious impact on the organization.
- Identify the need for new legal documents and templates.
- Oversee legal matters handled by outside counsel, including selection from pre-approved panels.
- Contribute significantly to the evaluation of panel counsel within areas of expertise.
- Identify and address gaps in corporate policies related to legal issues.
- May have limited budget responsibility for specific cost centers.
- Manage and train junior attorneys within practice areas.
- Exercise independent judgment, consulting senior attorneys as needed.
- Lead and participate in departmental and cross-functional working groups; engage with senior leadership on legal matters with minimal supervision.
- Negotiate high-value vendor agreements.
- Assist with internal policy review and revisions.
- Support regulatory responses within specific practice areas.
- Maintain working knowledge of US and EU data privacy and security requirements, collaborating with dedicated Privacy and Security Legal Teams.
- Develop and improve the commercial legal operating model, including playbooks, self-service tools, escalation frameworks, and process improvements to increase capacity and reduce cycle times.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Minimum of eight years of relevant legal experience.
- Licensed or eligible to practice law in the applicable state.
- Strong written and oral communication skills tailored to the intended audience.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced environment.
- Agility and adaptability in providing legal advice.
- Comfortable working in a rapidly changing corporate environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with master services agreements and related contracts for outsourcing transactions.
- Expertise in complex software, cloud, and other technology agreements, including those with AI components.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $180,000 - $200,000 annually. Actual starting pay is determined by qualifications, experience, geography, work location designation (in-office, hybrid, remote), and operational needs. Salary may vary above or below this range as permitted by law.
- Eligibility for an annual bonus based on individual performance and company bonus plans, at the organization's discretion.
