Overview
This role involves providing timely and practical general corporate and commercial legal advice and services across the organization. The position requires delivering clear communication and actionable guidance to senior business leaders on a wide range of issues.
Responsibilities
- Manage a high volume and variety of general legal matters efficiently.
- Negotiate numerous standard and complex corporate and commercial agreements while balancing legal and business risks.
- Quickly assess potential legal and compliance risks, benefits, and consequences of decisions.
- Present alternatives and propose solutions to achieve business objectives, managing both legal and practical business considerations.
- Interface directly with clients, vendors, third-party legal, procurement, and contracting representatives, as well as internal management and staff.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Sales, IT, HR, Insurance, Privacy, and Finance to meet business goals.
- Support commercial and other legal needs throughout North America.
Requirements
- 5-10 years of legal experience, preferably with contract negotiations.
- Licensed attorney with outstanding academic credentials from a nationally recognized law school.
- Business experience and/or in-house legal experience in professional services or financial services is a plus.
- Business-oriented team player with the ability and desire to understand various business operations and legal needs.
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills, with strong negotiation abilities.
- Critical thinking skills to identify issues and negotiate improvements in transaction documents.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to foster teamwork and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise good judgment on issue escalation.
- Capability to summarize key legal and business issues and alternatives for executive decision-making.
- Results-focused and able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Self-starter and independent, strategic thinker.
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Insurance industry experience preferred but not required.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $140,000 to $180,000 USD annually.
- Eligibility for an annual short-term incentive bonus.
