Overview

An innovative defense, national security, and space technology organization is seeking an Assistant General Counsel, Labor and Employment to join their corporate Legal team. This role supports the workforce legal strategy as the organization scales its industrial footprint, serving as the primary legal architect for all people-related matters. The position reports to the Chief Legal Officer and is part of the Legal department based in Denver, CO. This role is fully remote.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time, pragmatic legal counsel to HR and business leaders on the full employee lifecycle, including recruiting, compensation, performance management, leaves (FMLA/ADA), and separations.
  • Conduct labor and employment due diligence for active acquisition pipelines and lead post-merger integration of new workforces.
  • Manage and resolve employment-related disputes, administrative charges (EEOC, DFEH/CRD), and litigation; direct outside counsel, manage legal budgets, and drive cost-effective settlement or defense strategies.
  • Develop and implement scalable workplace policies ensuring compliance with federal laws (FLSA, OFCCP, OSHA) and state-specific laws, with emphasis on California and Colorado.
  • Provide cross-functional legal support including advising on corporate governance, general risk mitigation strategies, supporting data privacy initiatives, and protecting company intellectual property.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing of at least one U.S. State Bar (California preferred); ability to register as In-House Counsel required.
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in Labor and Employment law.
  • Experience combining top-tier law firm training and in-house roles at high-growth technology or defense companies is strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of federal and state labor laws, including government contractor compliance.

  • Self-starter with the ability to operate independently and build processes in ambiguous environments.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate complex legal risks clearly to technical teams and C-suite executives.
  • Adaptability to move between high-level strategy and tactical execution.
  • Genuine passion for space exploration and national security.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $220,000 - $275,000, dependent on experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and excludes benefits or bonuses.
