Overview
This role is for an experienced energy attorney specializing in retail electricity and natural gas transactions. The position involves independent work on major matters with potential responsibilities for mentoring other attorneys on specific projects. The work generally includes handling matters of significant importance within the energy sector.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate, structure, negotiate, and implement complex energy commodity transactions.
- Provide expert legal services primarily related to retail electricity, natural gas, and other retail energy transactions.
- Draft and negotiate various agreements including master electricity and gas supply agreements, transaction documents, and NDAs.
- Plan, conduct, and supervise large and complex energy commodity transactions, assessing legal and business risks and advising clients accordingly.
- Provide leadership and guidance to less experienced attorneys and support staff, depending on experience level.
- Prepare and revise budgets and early matter assessments for engagements involving outside counsel.
- Perform other projects and duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in relevant jurisdictions.
- Minimum of 10-12 years of professional experience in a specialized legal area.
- Comprehensive knowledge of legal principles, practices, and procedures applicable to complex assignments.
- Strong legal research and analytical skills with ongoing knowledge of federal and/or state law.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience handling retail energy commodity transactional work.
- Experience collaborating with business teams to structure complex energy commodity transactions.
- Familiarity with master energy supply agreements, energy transaction documents, and related documents such as NDAs.
Compensation & Benefits
- Expected salary range: $219,600 to $244,000, depending on experience.
