Overview

An organization specializing in the intersection of insurance and cybersecurity is seeking an experienced Assistant General Counsel to join their Legal team. This role supports the growth of the business by providing legal guidance primarily to the Security Team, including services related to incident response and cybersecurity products, as well as handling general corporate and contracting matters.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements such as customer, vendor, technology, and partnership contracts.
  • Develop and maintain contract templates, playbooks, and fallback positions to enable scalable contracting.
  • Provide legal, regulatory, and compliance advice related to cybersecurity products and services throughout their lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, security, and operations teams to identify and implement practical risk mitigations.
  • Review marketing, advertising, and promotional materials to ensure compliance with applicable laws and brand guidelines.
  • Work with privacy and security stakeholders on data use, security, and confidentiality in commercial arrangements.
  • Support protection and risk mitigation of the security team’s intellectual property portfolio.
  • Offer counsel on legal, ethical, business conduct, and compliance matters to the Security team and other internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of internal policies, playbooks, and training programs to foster compliance.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships and serve as a trusted advisor delivering clear, practical, business-focused legal advice.
  • Provide support and guidance on special projects and strategic initiatives as needed.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Admission to and good standing with at least one U.S. state bar or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant legal experience at a leading law firm, in-house, or a combination thereof, focusing on commercial transactions and/or technology, insurance, or financial services.
  • Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
  • Strong business judgment with the ability to provide practical, solutions-oriented advice in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Excellent communication, drafting, and negotiation skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Collaborative mindset and capability to work across functions and time zones.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in insurtech, cybersecurity, SaaS, financial services, or regulated products and services.
  • Familiarity with privacy, data security, and marketing and advertising laws such as CAN-SPAM, TCPA, UDAP, and state insurance advertising rules.
  • Prior in-house experience supporting growth-stage or technology-driven companies.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $190,000 to $260,000 per year, depending on geographic location and other factors such as education, skills, and experience.
