Overview
An organization is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to join their legal team in an in-house attorney role. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel | Chief Commercial and Regulatory Counsel, this position requires a generalist attorney capable of handling both strategic and detailed legal work. The role involves significant contracting and transactional responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Negotiate and draft various agreements and contracts, including commercial vendor contracts, client agreements, leases, and technology licenses
- Provide legal counsel on healthcare regulatory matters (with emphasis on privacy), contractual risks and liabilities, corporate organization, and litigation management
- Collaborate with senior executives and internal departments on strategic initiatives
- Research and anticipate legal and healthcare regulatory/compliance issues impacting the organization
- Use independent judgment to escalate critical legal and compliance issues to the governing body
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in good standing
- Minimum of 1-2 years of managed care experience, particularly negotiating value-based care agreements
- General knowledge of healthcare regulatory law, including fraud and abuse laws, HIPAA and privacy matters, Medicare Advantage and Medicaid obligations, and corporate practice of medicine
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels
- Strong negotiation skills covering both legal and financial/commercial issues
- Sharp attention to detail
- Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships across all business units
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous in-house legal experience and/or four or more years at a leading corporate law firm
