Overview

A legal services firm specializing in creditor recovery solutions is seeking a Legal Compliance Associate Attorney to join their in-house counsel team. This role involves conducting internal reviews of legal threats, lawsuits, and government agency complaints under the supervision of senior attorneys. The position combines litigation and compliance responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct internal reviews of legal threats, lawsuits, and government agency complaints against the firm.
  • Perform fact investigations and identify legal issues.
  • Analyze legal matters and communicate findings and recommendations to relevant parties.
  • Draft correspondence to government agencies and opposing parties.
  • Assist in designing and implementing compliance programs related to consumer and commercial debt collection, data privacy and security, and employment issues.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a practicing attorney.
  • Admission to and good standing with at least one State Bar.
  • Ability to anticipate legal issues, risks, and compliance needs.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop legal strategy and exercise sound independent judgment.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret laws and regulations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality appropriately.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Preferred knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements affecting debt collection and financial services industries.
  • Preferred knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and state consumer protection laws.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in operating computers, phones, or equivalent devices.
  • Ability to complete a minimum 40-hour flexible workweek.
  • Ability to read and comprehend position-specific documents and correspondence.

Physical Qualifications

  • Ability to lift five pounds or more.
  • Ability to sit for approximately 90% of the workday.
  • Ability to bend at the waist and be mobile when needed.
  • Ability to concentrate and use critical thinking.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $85,000 - $95,000 per year.
