Overview

An Associate Attorney position is available, focusing on resolving client issues through negotiation and litigation. This role involves handling various legal assignments of increasing complexity.

This is a fully remote position requiring attendance at the Chicago, IL or Cincinnati, OH office once per month. Candidates must hold an Indiana Bar License and be willing to obtain an additional license. Dual licensure in Ohio or Illinois is considered a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external clients.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Represent clients at legal, administrative, and other proceedings as assigned.
  • Research and interpret laws, rulings, and regulations; formulate legal opinions for review.
  • Identify causes of action and prepare lawsuits based on investigation of facts and applicable laws.
  • Conduct discovery in accordance with applicable rules.
  • Interview clients and witnesses in preparation for legal proceedings.
  • Review, draft, and dictate legal briefs, correspondence, pleadings, and other legal documents.
  • Ensure compliance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and other consumer protection statutes and regulations.
  • Participate in developing strategy, arguments, and testimony for case presentations.
  • Represent and promote the firm within the community and at public, social, and business events.
  • Monitor routine case files to determine next steps and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Assign and review work of department staff as required.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with current clients.
  • Negotiate to achieve final resolution of cases, arrange legal settlements, and resolve routine issues.
  • Complete required and optional learning classes and training applicable to the position.
  • Perform additional duties as requested or required.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree with 1-3 years of relevant experience or equivalent education, training, and experience.
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Indiana; dual licensure in Ohio and/or Illinois is a bonus.
  • Foreclosure experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents and respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
  • Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, and government regulations, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and other consumer protection statutes.
  • Proficiency with electronic legal research tools such as LexisNexis.
  • Ability to interpret and apply legal principles and procedures and develop effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, and court systems.
  • Hold a current, valid state license to practice law.
  • Practice according to the rules of professional conduct and ethical standards required by the licensing state.
  • Ability to pass a detailed background check and drug screen.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary range: $80,000 - $116,000, based on home office location (Chicago or Cincinnati) and experience.
