Overview
A Creditor's Rights law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney for positions based in Houston, Corpus Christi, or Laredo, Texas. This role involves litigating debt collection matters and independently conducting risk analysis and strategy development.
Responsibilities
- Represent clients in pre-suit and post-judgment matters
- Review correspondence and file information to determine appropriateness of filing lawsuits or motions
- Review answers and prepare responses to discovery and dispositive motions
- Manage all aspects of preparation for and appearance as counsel at hearings and trials
- Attend court settings throughout Texas via virtual appearances
- Attend physical court settings as needed in nearby courts
- Provide analysis and advice on legal and regulatory risks
- Write, review, and edit reports, opinions, correspondence, and other legal documents
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree
- Admission to the Texas State Bar (required)
- Background in litigation
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, with experience in collection law and/or courtroom experience
- Ability to work independently and manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of FDCPA, FCRA, and TCPA is a plus
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer
- Frequent talking, hearing, and use of hands for typing and handling objects
- Regular standing and walking; occasional stooping, bending, or reaching above shoulders
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
- Ability to access and navigate all departments at the organization's facilities
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $75,000 to $85,000 per year
