Overview

A national creditor rights law firm specializing in debt collection is seeking an Associate Attorney to join their team. The firm represents lenders in consumer and commercial recovery efforts and litigation, emphasizing ethics, compliance, and assertive client representation. The organization is headquartered in Andover, Massachusetts, with offices across the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with team members and external parties
  • Draft, review, and file legal pleadings, motions, and discovery documents
  • Review litigation case files and pleadings to determine appropriate actions
  • Advocate for clients in various litigation settings
  • Use proprietary software to update and document account statuses
  • Analyze litigation inventory reports and files to ensure proper workflow
  • Comply with all client and firm standard operating procedures
  • Travel to courtrooms within the branch office footprint as required
  • Prepare for and represent clients at hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials
  • Develop case strategies, conduct discovery, and present oral arguments
  • Negotiate settlements to resolve disputes efficiently while protecting client interests
  • Evaluate case merits, assess risk exposure, and provide strategic legal recommendations
  • Maintain compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and court procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Admission to practice law and in good standing in North Dakota and South Dakota
  • Ability or willingness to waive into Wyoming and Montana
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly motivated self-starter with eagerness to learn
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a large caseload
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to operate a computer, phone, or equivalent device
  • Ability to complete a minimum 40-hour flexible workweek schedule
  • Ability to read and comprehend position-specific documents and correspondence

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of litigation or trial experience
  • Working knowledge of civil procedure
  • Debt collection experience
  • Prior experience in a high-volume environment

Physical Qualifications

  • Ability to lift five pounds or more
  • Ability to sit for approximately 90% of the workday
  • Ability to bend at the waist and be mobile when needed
  • Ability to concentrate and use critical thinking skills

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $90,000 to $120,000 per year, plus applicable bonus
  • Full-time, full-benefit position

Location

  • Position requires admission in North Dakota and South Dakota, with ability or willingness to waive into Wyoming and Montana
