Overview
An attorney is needed to assist in developing office and state practice in North Carolina and to oversee collection litigation for the states. The role requires substantial courtroom experience in creditors’ rights and consumer laws (both state and federal), drafting legal forms, and performing legal research. The attorney will have full litigation responsibilities and administrative duties including preparing forms and developing processes.
Responsibilities
- Manage a high-volume docket of civil litigation cases in debt-collection through all phases from commencement through post-judgment actions.
- Review correspondence and case files to determine suitability for suit.
- Review and/or approve pleadings, motions, and discovery.
- Attend hearings and trials in a high-volume environment.
- Handle post-judgment remedies including attachment and garnishment.
- Prepare legal forms and develop office processes.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
- Bar admission in North Carolina is required; preference given to attorneys also licensed in South Carolina.
- 3 to 5 years of experience as a general litigation attorney.
- Substantial courtroom experience in creditors’ rights and consumer laws (state and federal).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and organize large volumes of information.
- Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all organizational levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in creditor’s rights litigation.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
- Frequent talking, hearing, and use of hands for typing and handling objects.
- Regular standing and walking; occasional stooping, bending, or reaching above shoulders.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to access and navigate all departments at the organization’s facilities.
Work Environment
- This is a remote position based in North Carolina.
Schedule
- Full-time, 8-hour shift Monday to Friday with flexibility to support business needs.
