Overview

A consumer protection law firm specializing in representing clients who have been harassed or deceived by creditors and debt collectors is seeking a full-time Associate Attorney. The firm is based in the Financial District of New York City but this position is for a candidate located in or near Warren County, Michigan. This role offers exposure to a variety of legal issues related to consumer protection, including transactional and civil litigation matters.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise a heavy and diversified caseload of clients in Michigan
  • Communicate regularly with clients regarding their legal matters
  • Draft pleadings, motions, legal memoranda, and review and draft agreements
  • Negotiate and communicate with opposing parties to resolve or settle claims
  • Conduct legal research on contract law and other consumer law issues
  • Attend court appearances as required (travel necessary despite remote work)
  • Coordinate with the main office via telephone and electronic communication tools

Requirements

  • Admission to practice law in Michigan is mandatory
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant law firm experience
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities
  • High ethical standards and professional integrity
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with senior management and colleagues
  • Proficient legal research skills; experience with LexisNexis is a plus
  • Must be located in or within a commutable distance to Warren County, MI
