Overview
This role involves representing the organization in litigation concerning consumer accounts and other legal proceedings involving the company and its affiliates. The position requires preparing and filing legal documents, discovery materials, and pleadings, as well as providing guidance to attorneys in support of these activities. This is a remote position for candidates residing in the Atlanta Metro Area.
Responsibilities
- Litigate on behalf of the organization in state courts where licensed, utilizing case management software
- Represent the organization and its affiliates in courts of law, including collecting facts and evidence, trying cases, and performing other litigation-related tasks
- Manage cases accurately and timely by preparing legal documents, developing strategies, and making necessary arguments with defendants, opposing counsel, and court personnel
- Represent the organization at scheduling conferences, mediations, settlement conferences, depositions, hearings, and trials
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies within areas of responsibility
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree required
- Active member of the Georgia bar; must reside in Georgia
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience or equivalent training
- Prior litigation experience preferred, including preparing and drafting pleadings, participating in all phases of discovery, and handling trials
- Familiarity with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Truth-In-Lending Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, and other federal and state laws and regulations related to consumer credit and collections
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at multiple levels
- Strong organizational, time-management, and interpersonal skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to analyze multiple issues and provide sound business judgment
- Proficient in researching, reading, analyzing, and interpreting statutes, case law, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations
- Ability to provide well-researched, accurate, and practical legal advice in a timely manner
- Capability to develop, improve, and standardize procedures
