Overview

This role involves handling eviction matters for the firm. Prior eviction litigation experience is highly preferred. The associate attorney will facilitate the eviction process on behalf of clients using legal knowledge and experience as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a high-volume eviction caseload.
  • Provide legal advice to clients.
  • Conduct legal research.
  • Draft legal documents, including complaints, motions and opposition, and discovery requests and responses.
  • Represent clients in court hearings (prior courtroom experience is preferred).
  • Stay current on eviction law changes and trends throughout New York.
  • Maintain a working understanding of New York City’s Good Cause Eviction Law (“GCEL”) and Rent Stabilization laws (highly preferred).
  • Educate clients on eviction law changes and trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed in New York.
  • Minimum of one year of experience practicing law.
  • Member of the California State Bar, while maintaining all necessary licensing and continuing legal education requirements.
  • Eviction, foreclosure, litigation, or title experience preferred, but not required.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to take initiative, provide guidance to colleagues, and promote accountability and teamwork.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys, staff, clients, and other team members.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong client relations and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
