Overview
A leading organization in sustainability standards and third-party certification, with over 40 years of experience across natural resources, built environment, food and agriculture, consumer products, and climate sectors, is seeking an Associate Corporate Counsel. The organization operates as a Benefit Corporation committed to socially and environmentally responsible business practices.
Responsibilities
- Negotiate and review global commercial contracts, including professional services agreements, vendor and customer agreements, and nondisclosure agreements, advising on legal and business risks
- Participate in contract administration and improve legal operations for efficiency and scalability
- Advise on data protection, privacy, intellectual property provisions, laws, and related risks
- Update and maintain corporate agreement templates for contractors, international representatives, nondisclosure agreements, and other standard documents
- Prepare legal guidance documents and best practice resources to support business unit leaders
- Manage trademark and patent matters and coordinate with outside counsel on filings and ongoing support
- Provide legal guidance on Human Resources compliance matters in partnership with HR
- Review and advise on insurance coverage and related risk considerations
- Support subsidiary formation, governance, and ongoing compliance requirements
- Research, analyze, and advise on various legal issues including foreign law, privacy/data security, tax, and other corporate matters
- Develop or identify training materials and deliver guidance on key legal topics such as data protection and compliance obligations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives and ensure legal considerations are addressed
- Work with General Counsel to engage and manage outside counsel as necessary
- Contribute to continuous improvement of legal processes, tools, and practices to support a growing global organization
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate degree
- 1-3 years of experience as corporate counsel or in a law firm
- Licensed to practice law (Bar Admission) in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Practical business sense with the ability to find creative legal solutions and balance legal risks against business interests
- Accountable, flexible, driven, and willing to engage in a hands-on role
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability and desire to collaborate effectively with diverse internal groups, teams, divisions, and cultures
- Interest in growing within a complex, fast-paced, mission-driven organization
- Professional fluency in Spanish or Portuguese
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated annual salary range: $80,000 - $135,000
Location
- This is a remote, home-office based role
- May require local, domestic, and/or international travel; details to be clarified during recruitment
