Overview
This role involves providing substantive legal services with a focus on supporting the Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute (HVTI) as research activities, global collaborations, and regulatory requirements expand. The position requires maintaining positive, confidential client relationships through effective consultation and communication. The attorney will work independently or under senior guidance to support a wide range of legal matters, primarily reviewing research agreements such as clinical trial agreements, collaboration agreements, research service agreements, data use agreements, and grant agreements, along with related regulatory support.
This is a remote position with working hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Responsibilities
- Maintain expertise and advise department members on legal developments within assigned areas.
- Proactively seek opportunities to ensure compliance within relevant legal areas.
- Provide timely legal advice and responses for assigned areas.
- Identify and implement measures to deliver effective legal services.
- Collaborate and provide leadership on projects and teams within the legal department and organization.
- Serve as a dedicated attorney supporting HVTI, focusing on reviewing research and clinical trial agreements.
- Review a high volume of contracts, approximately 200–400 per year.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Two to five years of attorney or comparable direct legal experience; candidates with more experience in research contracting are encouraged to apply.
- Membership in good standing with a state bar or ability to obtain membership within a reasonable time.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in performing legal services.
- Primary experience reviewing contracts, including research contracts, general contracts, and supply chain contracts.
- Ability to take appropriate action in stressful environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience reviewing clinical research agreements.
- Regulatory experience, including familiarity with HIPAA, GDPR, and similar data privacy regulations.
- General knowledge or experience related to FDA regulations.
- Prior involvement or understanding of human subject research and Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
- Ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
- Ability to operate computer, audiovisual, and other office equipment.
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information, including delivering training both in person and virtually.

Compensation & Benefits
- Minimum Annual Salary: $112,110.00
- Maximum Annual Salary: $170,955.00
The salary range reflects anticipated compensation for new hires. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as work history, experience, skill set, and education. The range does not include pay practices like shift differentials or overtime, nor does it include the value of the benefits package (healthcare, dental, vision, retirement contributions, etc.).
