Overview
The organization is seeking an Associate Counsel, PIP to defend arbitrations and lawsuits filed in New York and other first party insurance defense matters. This position is with the employer’s Staff Counsel team in New York.
Responsibilities
- Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
- Provide opinions on coverage, medical necessity/causation, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
- Prepare and handle arbitration submissions and examinations under oath.
- Defend assigned matters by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable.
Requirements
- 2 to 6+ years of litigation experience (required).
- Juris Doctor degree (required).
- Admission to the New York Bar (required).
- Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in New York and meet and maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable.
- Must be able to travel as required, including but not limited to attending trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.
- Must be able to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner for customers, clients, coworkers, and other organization employees.
- Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and have strong organization/priority-setting and multi-tasking skills.
- Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Civil litigation experience.
- Insurance defense-related litigation experience and/or personal injury.
- Ability to communicate professionally in person, via telephone, and in written correspondence.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual salary: $118,900.00 - $186,550.00
- The stated range is a general guideline. Final compensation is determined based on factors including scope and responsibilities of the role, candidate experience, education and training, work location, and market/business considerations.
Location
- Remote (Staff Counsel role located in New York).
