Associate Counsel - Queens, NY (Remote)

Overview

The organization is seeking an Associate Counsel to defend lawsuits filed in New York courts and to support first-party insurance defense matters. This position is part of Staff Counsel coverage for venues within Queens, NY.

Responsibilities

• Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda
• Provide opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including:
  • depositions/examinations before trial
  • examinations under oath
• Defend assigned matters by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable

Requirements

• 2 to 6+ years of experience in related litigation fields, including insurance defense and/or personal injury
• Juris Doctor degree REQUIRED
• Admission to the New York Bar REQUIRED
• Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in New York and meet and maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable
• Ability to travel as required, including attendance at trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences
• Ability to document files clearly, concisely, and professionally in written form understandable to customers, clients, coworkers, and other organization employees
• Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, with strong organization/priority setting and multi-tasking skills
• Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information

Preferred Qualifications

• Civil litigation experience
• Insurance defense-related litigation experience
• Ability to communicate professionally in person, via telephone, and in written correspondence

REMOTE (with Staff Counsel coverage for venues within Queens, NY)

Compensation & Benefits

Annual Salary: $118,900.00 - $186,550.00

The annual salary range is a general guideline. Factors considered include the scope and responsibilities of the role, work experience, education and training, work location, and market and business considerations.
