Overview
This role is for an Associate General Counsel – APJ Commercial position at a mission-driven, fast-growing cloud technology organization focused on real-time analytics, data warehousing, and data observability. The attorney will be an early member of the legal team, supporting the APJ sales organization with review, negotiation, and legal support for revenue-generating activities across the APJ region.
The position is remote and based in Singapore, reporting to an Associate General Counsel.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the first legal hire in APJ and help build and manage an APJ legal team as the business grows.
- Support the commercial legal function by reviewing and negotiating customer contracts, with primary focus on enabling the APJ sales team.
- Act as a solutions-oriented business partner to the APJ sales team by providing pragmatic, business-focused legal counsel.
- Lead complex cross-border transactions with sophisticated counterparties across multiple jurisdictions.
- Monitor and advise on relevant regulatory, compliance, and legal developments affecting the business in the APJ region; coordinate with the broader Legal team and cross-functional stakeholders as needed.
- Provide training and enablement to internal stakeholders on legal issues and contract processes.
- Maintain and update legal agreements, policies, and templates; develop and improve scalable workflows that support rapid revenue growth and stability.
Requirements
- Law degree and member in good standing in Singapore or Australia; international legal experience is a plus.
- Minimum 10 years’ PQE practicing both with a law firm and in-house at a high growth technology company.
- Proven experience drafting, negotiating, closing, and advising on complex commercial software and SaaS agreements with enterprise customers, partners, and resellers across multiple jurisdictions.
- Strong understanding of commercial legal issues related to SaaS and software licensing, including data privacy, security, intellectual property, open-source, revenue recognition, and tax.
- Experience with professional services and other go-to-market programs, including partner/reseller programs.
- Excellent judgment with the ability to translate legal risk into practical commercial advice aligned with business objectives.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and maintain relationships with sales, cross-functional stakeholders, and customers.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a high-growth environment.
- Experience supporting a high growth infrastructure SaaS company.
- Demonstrated ability to work with urgency and excel in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience successfully hiring and managing attorneys and other legal specialists.
