Overview

An established organization is seeking an experienced Associate General Counsel, Commercial to serve as a strategic legal partner on high-value commercial matters critical to growth and operational excellence. This role leads a key legal team focused on complex commercial agreements and procurement contracts with annual spend exceeding $500 million. The position also provides broad legal support in technology, data privacy, marketing, consumer-facing products and services, intellectual property, and related areas.

The ideal candidate combines strong legal expertise with deep business acumen, acting as a trusted advisor to business leaders by anticipating challenges, identifying opportunities, and driving results on important priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead legal support for the Procurement team, managing all legal aspects of commercial contracting across procurement, supply chain, and vendor relationships to ensure alignment with strategic, operational, and financial goals.
  • Act as a strategic partner to Procurement in developing multi-year strategies with key vendors.
  • Negotiate and structure commercial partnerships that drive revenue and innovation, including collaborations involving data, AI, technology, marketing, and new business initiatives.
  • Serve as lead negotiator on high-value commercial contracts and engage directly with vendors.
  • Manage a critical legal team providing support on technology, data privacy, marketing, commercial contracts, consumer products and services, intellectual property, insurance, and hospital-level legal issues.
  • Collaborate with leaders across operations, procurement, IT, medical, finance, and marketing to develop pragmatic, timely, and business-aligned legal solutions.
  • Design and implement contract management best practices to improve efficiency, governance, and value realization through policies and procedures.
  • Drive legal operations improvements, focusing on deploying legal technology to enhance efficiency, precision, and visibility.
  • Manage outside counsel to ensure efficient, high-quality support on specialized matters.
  • Support strategic decision-making by balancing legal risk with commercial objectives and operational realities.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, including significant in-house experience advising on complex commercial agreements and strategic partnerships.
  • Proven success in high-value procurement, supply, or strategic vendor contracting.
  • Experience leading a high-performing in-house legal team.
  • Experience supporting diverse functional teams such as technology, data, marketing, procurement, and operations.
  • Required experience with AI and other technology contracts and data privacy provisions.
  • Experience implementing and/or managing contract lifecycle management (CLM) platforms.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to quickly gain trust and influence across the organization.
  • Strategic thinker combining sound legal judgment with a deep understanding of business drivers.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $180,000 to $220,000 annually, determined by role, level, and location.
  • Individual pay within the range is influenced by work location, skills, experience, and education.
  • Competitive compensation package including medical, dental, vision benefits, vacation, sick leave, 401(k), and other benefits depending on location.

Additional Information

  • This is a full-time position reporting to the General Counsel.
  • The role includes direct reports and requires periodic travel for key business engagements.
