Overview
This role involves serving as the lead legal advisor on employment matters within the Legal and Compliance team. The position reports to the VP, Deputy General Counsel for corporate legal and provides guidance on labor and employment issues across the organization. Responsibilities include managing employment litigation with external counsel and supporting global employment matters.
Responsibilities
- Advise on a wide range of labor and employment law topics including employee relations, wage and hour, compensation and benefits, performance management, disciplinary actions, leaves and accommodations, recruiting, restrictive covenants, and contingent workers.
- Collaborate with the People Team to support day-to-day employee lifecycle matters.
- Draft, review, and update employment-related policies and agreements, including the employee handbook and variable compensation plans.
- Support global employment matters in France, India, the United Kingdom, and manage contingent worker issues through PEOs with assistance from local counsel.
- Evaluate and scale current employment processes.
- Support workplace investigations and dispute resolution.
- Monitor legislation, regulations, case law, and government enforcement activities related to employment issues and provide proactive, strategic advice.
- Support employment compliance initiatives.
- Prepare and deliver training on various employment law topics to internal stakeholders.
- Provide employment law support for corporate transactions.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-approved law school.
- Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California.
- Minimum of 10 years of labor and employment law experience, including both law firm and in-house roles.
- Deep, practical expertise in California labor and employment law.
- Demonstrated judgment, integrity, discretion with confidential matters, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to serve as lead employment counsel and subject matter expert in a high-growth environment.
- Extensive experience drafting and scaling policies, managing workplace investigations, and advising on variable compensation and workforce change strategies, including WARN compliance.
- High emotional intelligence, resilience, and the ability to maintain objectivity when advising senior leadership on sensitive matters.
- Experience working in fast-paced environments with limited direction, managing competing priorities and multiple time-sensitive projects.
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting annual base pay ranges:
- San Francisco Bay Area and New York City: $264,000 to $290,000 USD
- All other US locations: $238,000 to $290,000 USD
- Eligibility for performance-based bonuses as determined by the organization.

Location
- Hybrid work model with hubs in San Francisco, New York City, and Chicago.
- Some roles may be performed remotely within the US, while others require proximity to a hub.
