Overview
This is a full-time, exempt position offering an annual salary range of $160,000 to $200,000, depending on experience. The role may also be eligible for a bonus. The position is remote; however, the ideal candidate will reside near one of the organization's Service Center locations in Southern California, Midvale, Utah, or Dallas, Texas.
The organization provides back-office support services to over 378 facilities in the long-term care continuum, supporting more than 55,000 employees. The support areas include accounting, construction, compliance, human resources, information technology, legal, risk management, and learning management.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel on employment law matters, including employee relations, discrimination, harassment, and wage and hour laws.
- Collaborate with human resources, management, and external legal counsel to address complex employment issues and support company initiatives.
- Identify and assess potential legal risks related to employment practices and develop strategies to mitigate those risks.
- Develop and deliver training programs for employees and managers on employment law topics such as labor management relations, anti-harassment, discrimination, and workplace behavior.
- Work with HR to develop, review, and update employee handbooks, policies, and procedures to ensure legal compliance and alignment with organizational goals.
- Ensure company policies and practices comply with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; stay current on changes in employment law and advise on necessary updates.
- Manage and resolve employment-related disputes, including conducting investigations and representing the organization in employment-related litigation or administrative proceedings (e.g., EEOC or OSHA).
- Manage external employment litigation counsel.
- Provide education and support related to labor-management relations, including managing grievances, negotiating and managing Collective Bargaining Agreements, union avoidance strategies, and other traditional labor law matters.
Professional Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law and in good standing with the State Bar where licensed.
- Five to ten years of experience in labor and employment law.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations, traditional labor law, the National Labor Relations Act, and experience with single plaintiff and class action litigation.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion.
