Overview

A healthcare organization specializing in virtual medical practice for women and children is seeking an Associate General Counsel, Healthcare and Technology. This role focuses on legal matters at the intersection of healthcare, product development, privacy, and AI governance. The position reports to the General Counsel and involves providing strategic legal guidance to support business initiatives and product innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior legal partner, providing business-aligned legal guidance on healthcare, technology, and privacy matters.
  • Collaborate closely with the General Counsel on high-priority legal issues and adapt to evolving business needs.
  • Provide legal counsel on product development, healthcare regulations, privacy laws, and care delivery models.
  • Support cross-functional teams including product, engineering, clinical, and operations with practical, risk-informed advice.
  • Apply deep regulatory expertise to new market entries, business models, and compliance initiatives.
  • Lead and develop the organization's responsible AI governance program, ensuring alignment with regulatory compliance and business goals.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school with active U.S. bar membership.
  • Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, including a mix of law firm and in-house roles in health technology or digital health.
  • In-house experience at a fast-paced healthcare or health tech company is required.
  • Expert knowledge of healthcare regulatory law, including fraud and abuse laws (AKS, FCA, Stark Law), CPOM, telehealth regulations, and Medicaid reimbursement.
  • Extensive experience advising on product development and app deployment in technology-driven environments.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. privacy laws such as HIPAA and state consumer protection laws relevant to healthcare.
  • Demonstrated leadership in AI/ML governance initiatives, with knowledge of legal and ethical considerations in clinical AI applications.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills, capable of translating complex legal concepts into actionable business guidance.
  • Strong professional judgment and ability to provide proactive decision support to senior leadership.
  • Experience managing legal teams, setting priorities, delegating tasks, and coordinating cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguous situations with a bias toward action and balanced risk management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience advising on data governance and legal issues related to research studies and data use for publications.
  • Experience supporting legal functions during rapid scaling, new market launches, or significant regulatory changes.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Estimated salary range: $255,000 to $275,000, with most candidates expected to fall in the middle of this range.
