Overview

An opportunity is available for an Associate General Counsel based in any U.S. office with consideration for 100% remote work within the United States. Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, this role involves collaborating with the Office of General Counsel (OGC) to manage legal affairs and strategic risk management planning. Responsibilities include preparing risk management policies, training materials, templates, and advising on complex conflicts, risk issues, unique client engagement arrangements, and client due diligence requests.

The Associate General Counsel is expected to uphold client service standards and core values.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the OGC and Risk Management Committee with administration of risk management policies, including drafting policies, alerts, and training materials for lawyers and staff.
  • Stay updated on rules of professional conduct, ethics opinions, and legal developments; provide education and alerts accordingly.
  • Counsel partners and management on risk issues such as complicated conflicts of interest and specialized waivers.
  • Consult with the New Business & Conflicts Director, team, and partners on ethical and business conflicts, intake issues, engagement terms, and lateral onboarding.
  • Assist in coordinating client engagement letter templates and waiver letter templates.
  • Demonstrate familiarity and interest in law firm use of AI tools (preferred).
  • Prepare and review secondment agreements, local counsel engagement agreements, and Kovel letters.
  • Assist in responding to auditor, insurance, and client information requests, including Requests for Proposals and client due diligence questionnaires.
  • Support annual global risk management audit procedures related to malpractice insurance renewal.
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategic goals and specific projects for risk management.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate and current admission to a U.S. bar in good standing.
  • Minimum of five years of legal experience, including at least three years in a law firm environment, preferably within an office of general counsel.
  • Experience applying various rules and codes of professional responsibility.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across all levels of staff and attorneys.
  • Creative and practical problem-solving approach aligned with strategic, business, and professional needs.
  • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal, communication, and counseling skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities with excellent attention to detail.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, personal integrity, ethics, and dedication.
  • Flexibility to manage multiple responsibilities and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Willingness to work varied hours as needed to cover multiple time zones.
  • Some travel required.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range varies by location:

  • New York City, Silicon Valley, and San Francisco: $285,000 - $375,000
  • Washington DC, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica, Sacramento, Boston, and Seattle: $287,000 - $375,000
  • All other U.S. locations: $250,000 - $375,000

Location

This position is open to candidates based in any U.S. office or fully remote within the United States.
