Overview

This role involves leading the global privacy and product legal strategy for a digital experience platform company. The position is remote-first, open to candidates in the United States, British Columbia and Ontario in Canada, and the United Kingdom. It reports to the Chief Legal Officer and is a full-time role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the global privacy and product legal strategy, including privacy policies, data handling practices, compliance programs, trainings, documentation, and scalable legal processes.
  • Manage and develop a team of privacy and product counsel, setting priorities and balancing workload to build a high-trust, high-output legal function.
  • Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering teams to embed privacy-by-design principles into the product development lifecycle.
  • Advise on new product features, platform capabilities, product terms, and go-to-market strategies.
  • Provide legal guidance on AI-powered features and emerging technologies, including issues related to model training data, output liability, responsible AI governance, third-party AI tools, and intersections of AI, intellectual property, and privacy law.
  • Lead privacy reviews, privacy impact assessments (PIAs/DPIAs), data subject request processes, law enforcement request processes, privacy hygiene assessments, and cross-functional risk mitigation efforts.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate privacy-related agreements and terms, including data processing agreements (DPAs), and provide privacy expertise across commercial deals, strategic partnerships, and mergers and acquisitions diligence.
  • Monitor and interpret evolving global privacy and AI regulations, translating complex legal requirements into practical guidance to support rapid yet compliant business operations.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant legal experience, including at least 3 years in-house at a technology company.
  • Proven experience managing, developing, and scaling legal teams.
  • Deep expertise in global privacy law, including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and related privacy frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience building and operating privacy compliance programs within technology environments.
  • Significant experience providing privacy and product counseling in a technology company.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practical, business-minded legal leadership that enables teams to move quickly while managing risk.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with Product, Engineering, Security, Go-To-Market, and executive stakeholders by translating complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance.
  • Experience advising on AI, machine learning, or emerging technology products and comfort navigating ambiguity in fast-moving technical environments.
  • Strategic and hands-on approach: capable of setting legal strategy, developing talent, building scalable programs, and handling detailed contract review.
  • Current knowledge of global privacy and AI regulations; certifications such as CIPP/US and/or CIPP/E are preferred but not required.
  • Collaborative approach to legal work, operating as a trusted partner rather than a blocker.
  • Proactive embrace of AI and emerging technologies to enhance work processes and outcomes.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary ranges vary by geographic location within the United States:
    • Zone A: $240,000 - $300,000
    • Zone B: $225,600 - $282,000
    • Zone C: $211,200 - $264,000
  • Eligibility to participate in a company-wide bonus program based on company performance.
