Overview
An innovative fintech company is seeking an Associate General Counsel to help build the legal foundation as the organization scales. This role reports to the General Counsel and works closely with the leadership team, including the founders. It involves broad legal responsibilities across product, commercial, and regulatory areas.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on a wide range of matters including product development, commercial agreements, and regulatory compliance
- Support the development and launch of new financial products and features
- Draft, review, and negotiate key agreements such as partnerships, vendor contracts, and customer agreements
- Structure and execute strategic relationships with banks, fintech partners, and infrastructure providers
- Collaborate with compliance, risk, and operations teams to align regulatory strategy
- Build scalable internal legal processes, templates, and frameworks
- Identify legal and regulatory risks and propose practical solutions
- Manage external counsel as needed
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of legal experience in law firm, in-house, and/or government roles
- Strong generalist skills across commercial, regulatory, and product-related legal work
- Experience in fintech, financial services, banking, or high-growth technology companies
- Excellent judgment balancing legal risk with business objectives
- Clear and concise communication skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and leadership teams
- High ownership mindset and independence
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting expansion into new consumer products or regulatory frameworks
- Familiarity with crypto, stablecoins, or AI technologies
- Prior experience at early-stage or scaling startups
- Experience building legal processes from the ground up
Compensation & Benefits
