Overview

A leading voice AI platform is seeking an experienced lawyer to join a lean, high-impact legal team. This role focuses on legal work related to AI model development and the products built on these models. The ideal candidate thrives at the intersection of law and AI technology, possesses sharp instincts and sound judgment, and is comfortable navigating ambiguity while working closely with product and research teams.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary legal counsel for data and research teams on issues arising in AI model development.
  • Design legal frameworks that enable rapid and confident research progress.
  • Collaborate with product teams to launch user-focused products and features.
  • Draft and review consumer-facing terms, policies, disclosures, and marketing materials written clearly for customers.
  • Develop and expand the organization's privacy program to enhance customer trust.
  • Monitor and interpret emerging international AI legal frameworks, translating them into actionable principles and policies.
  • Build deep expertise in AI-related legal questions and contribute to advancing industry understanding.
  • Establish AI-native legal workflows and systems to scale the legal team's impact.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from a U.S. accredited law school.
  • 7–15 years of legal experience, either in-house, at a law firm, or both.
  • Proven experience advising product, research, or engineering teams on legal issues related to AI development and deployment.
  • Strong knowledge of privacy, intellectual property, data licensing, consumer protection, and international AI regulatory landscapes.
  • Comfort operating in legal grey areas while providing clear, actionable advice.
  • Demonstrated AI-native legal practice, including integrating AI tools and workflows into daily work.
  • Exceptional writing skills: precise, plain, and compelling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience at a foundation model company or AI research lab.
  • Expertise in emerging AI regulatory regimes such as the EU AI Act, U.S. state laws, UK, or APAC regulations.
