Associate General Counsel, Product (Fintech) (Americas)

Overview

This role supports the Product Legal Team, which counsels business units responsible for developing and building the organization’s products and services. Legal support spans new products across different verticals in a fast-evolving, challenging environment.

The work includes advising on:

• Global payment rails processing billions in transactions
• Embedded asset accounts, loans, cards, and other financial products that blur traditional regulatory boundaries
• Emerging payment methods from BNPL to crypto
• AI-powered lending and risk decisioning systems

Responsibilities

• Partner with product teams launching financial innovations that regulators may not have contemplated yet
• Manage regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions for products serving millions of merchants processing hundreds of billions in payments
• Translate complex regulations for business stakeholders and translate product visions into compliant realities
• Create scalable legal frameworks that enable product velocity rather than one-off approvals
• Own legal outcomes for go-to-market launches, from legal review through post-launch iteration
• Build positive, highly collaborative relationships across legal teams

Requirements

• A qualifying law degree and license to practice law in the United States or Canada
• 7+ years of relevant legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department
• Substantial experience counseling product teams on financial regulatory matters, privacy, consumer protection, and compliance
• Exceptional analytical thinking, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills
• Comfort with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment, collaborating across multiple areas to achieve common organizational objectives
• Proven ability to manage external counsel across multiple jurisdictions

Preferred Qualifications (Bonus Experience)

• Experience with common fintech financial licenses (e.g., US money transmitter licenses and BitLicenses, EU/UK e-money institution licenses, and similar regimes worldwide)
• Experience launching financial products internationally
• Background in emerging areas such as embedded finance, open banking, and crypto/blockchain
