Overview
An innovative video AI company specializing in synthetic media on social platforms is seeking an Associate General Counsel, Product to support its rapid growth phase. The role reports directly to the General Counsel and focuses on legal matters related to product development, privacy, AI, and regulatory compliance. This position offers the opportunity to help build and scale a legal function that acts as a strategic business partner.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with design, engineering, and research teams to provide legal and strategic risk mitigation advice on privacy, data security, safety, copyright, AI regulations, and consumer protection laws.
- Develop and manage a global privacy and data protection compliance program.
- Establish legal and operational infrastructure to efficiently manage risk at scale.
- Monitor legal developments relevant to AI companies and translate risks into actionable guidance.
- Participate in urgent company initiatives beyond core expertise as needed.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of state and international privacy, data protection, and online safety laws.
- Working knowledge of copyright, secondary liability, and emerging AI regulations.
- Familiarity with marketing and consumer protection laws applicable to digital platforms and ecommerce.
- Proactive, low-ego approach; willing to tackle projects of varying scope without over-reliance on external counsel.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-driven environment with colleagues across multiple time zones.
- Excellent, business-oriented communication skills.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active membership in at least one state bar, with eligibility to practice in-house in California.
- Minimum of 6 years of legal practice experience.
