Overview

An opportunity is available for an Associate General Counsel based in any U.S. office with consideration for 100% remote U.S. locations. This role reports to the Deputy General Counsel and involves working closely with the Office of General Counsel (OGC) to manage the legal affairs of the firm and contribute to strategic risk management planning.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the OGC and Risk Management Committee with administration of risk management policies, including drafting policies, alerts, and training materials for lawyers and staff.
  • Monitor updates to rules of professional conduct, ethics opinions, and other legal developments; collaborate with OGC to provide education and alerts.
  • Advise partners and management on risk issues, including complex conflicts of interest and specialized waivers.
  • Consult with the New Business & Conflicts team and partners on ethical and business conflicts, intake issues, engagement terms, and lateral onboarding.
  • Coordinate client engagement letter templates and waiver letter templates with OGC.
  • Prepare and review secondment agreements, local counsel engagement agreements, and Kovel letters.
  • Assist in responding to auditor, insurance, and client information requests, including Requests for Proposals and client due diligence questionnaires.
  • Support annual global risk management audit procedures related to malpractice insurance renewal.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic goals and projects for risk management.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate and current admission to a U.S. bar in good standing.
  • Minimum of five years of legal experience, including at least three years in a law firm environment, preferably within an office of general counsel.
  • Experience applying various rules and codes of professional responsibility.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across all levels of staff and attorneys.
  • Creative and practical problem-solving approach aligned with strategic, business, and professional needs.
  • Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal, communication, and counseling abilities.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, personal integrity, ethics, and dedication.
  • Flexibility to manage multiple responsibilities and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Willingness to work varied hours as needed to cover multiple time zones.
  • Some travel required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity and interest in law firm use of AI tools.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary ranges by location:

    • New York City, Silicon Valley, San Francisco: $285,000 - $375,000
    • Washington DC, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica, Sacramento, Boston, Seattle: $287,000 - $375,000
    • All other U.S. locations: $250,000 - $375,000
  • Additional compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus based on firm and individual performance.
