Overview

This role is an opportunity to join the Health Litigation team, managing a variety of work for defendant clinical negligence clients, primarily focusing on insurer/medical malpractice matters. The team handles a portfolio of insurer work, including matters involving pharmacy, aesthetic and private clinicians.

Hours

  • Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:30 (37.5 hours per week)
  • Flexible working opportunities will be considered.

Location

  • Manchester (remote working options will also be considered)

Responsibilities

You will manage a caseload of clinical negligence files, including:

  • Reviewing insurance policies and advising on coverage
  • Drafting reports
  • Interviewing witnesses
  • Drafting witness statements
  • Instructing experts
  • Instructing counsel
  • Attending court for case management conferences and application hearings
  • Advising on quantum and negotiating settlements
  • Holding conferences with counsel
  • Preparing for and attending trials and mediations

Additional duties may include:

  • Drafting articles for clients on changes to the law
  • Delivering client training and presentations
  • Building and maintaining client and internal relationships, in line with internal and external operating procedures
  • Contributing to business development by seeking new business opportunities
  • Making a wider contribution to the Health business group and the wider firm by identifying ways to improve
  • Supervising colleagues’ work and supporting team development through appropriate delegation and coaching

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor
  • Defendant clinical negligence experience
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a growing team, both in the office and remotely
  • Demonstrates an understanding of clients’ needs and expectations
  • Adheres to guidelines and client protocols/KPIs
  • Proactive, pragmatic approach with a focus on quality
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Understanding of client data security requirements
  • Evidence of meeting hours and contribution target
