Overview
Role: Associate (Health Litigation)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:30 (37.5 hours per week)
Location: Manchester (remote working options will also be considered)
This role is within the Health Litigation team, handling a variety of defendant clinical negligence work for insurer/medical malpractice clients. The team manages a portfolio for insurers, including matters involving pharmacy, aesthetic, and private clinicians.
Responsibilities
- Run a caseload of clinical negligence files, including:
- Reviewing insurance policies and advising on coverage
- Drafting reports
- Interviewing witnesses
- Drafting witness statements
- Instructing experts
- Instructing counsel
- Attending court for Case Management Conferences and Application Hearings
- Advising on quantum and negotiating settlements
- Holding conferences with counsel
- Preparing for and attending trials and mediations
Additional Duties
- Draft articles for clients on changes to the law
- Provide client training and presentations
- Build and maintain client and internal relationships, adhering to internal and external operating procedures
- Contribute to business development by seeking new business opportunities
- Make a wider contribution to the Health business group and the wider firm by continually seeking ways to improve
- Supervise colleagues’ work and support team development through appropriate delegation and coaching
Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor
- Defendant clinical negligence experience
- Ability to work independently and as part of a growing team, in the office and remotely
- Demonstrates an understanding of clients’ needs and expectations
- Adheres to guidelines and client protocols/KPIs
- Proactive, pragmatic approach with a focus on quality
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Appreciation of client data security requirements
- Evidence of meeting hours and contribution targets
