Overview

This role involves serving as the Associate Director of Labor & Employment, reporting to the Executive Director for Labor & Employment, Americas. The position is part of a global legal and policy team providing strategic, efficient, and cost-effective advice on a broad range of labor and employment issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical, business-savvy legal advice on labor and employment matters including employee relations, recruitment, restrictive covenants, wage and hour, equal pay, leaves of absence, performance management, disciplinary actions, terminations, workplace safety, reorganizations, reductions in force, executive compensation, international assignments, employment agreements, and employee benefits.
  • Collaborate with HR to develop, revise, and implement US and global employment-related policies and procedures ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Support compliance and investigations processes, independently managing sensitive investigations.
  • Lead responses to charges, audits, compliance reviews, and investigations before agencies such as EEOC, NLRB, DOL, and corresponding state or local bodies.
  • Independently manage single plaintiff and class action employment litigation, including strategy development, discovery facilitation, and case resolution.
  • Provide strategic advice on reorganizations to meet operational goals while mitigating legal risk.
  • Draft, review, interpret, and negotiate employment-related agreements including employment agreements, separation agreements, restrictive covenants, confidentiality agreements, and retention bonuses.
  • Prepare communications and updates for human resources and business leaders on labor and employment topics, including new laws impacting the workplace.
  • Provide legal advice on global mergers and acquisitions and serve as work stream leader on employment and labor-related topics.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and membership in good standing of a U.S. state bar.
  • Minimum of 5 years of labor and employment experience in a law firm or in-house counsel role.
  • Experience litigating single plaintiff and class action employment cases independently, including first chairing mediations and case resolutions.
  • Independent client counseling experience on labor and employment legal issues such as leaves of absence, accommodations, discrimination, retaliation, terminations, wage-and-hour compliance, and background checks.
  • Preferred experience with traditional labor matters including collective bargaining negotiations, union campaigns, and labor arbitrations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to make sound judgment calls under pressure.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a matrixed management structure.
  • Ability to drive process changes, resource efficiencies, and change management in legal service delivery.
  • Exceptional project management skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with senior management, business units, and legal team members and to influence outcomes positively.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $145,000 - $195,000, determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, internal equity, and market data.
