Overview

An organization in the Consumer Technology sector is seeking an Associate Product Counsel to provide legal guidance aligned with business growth while managing legal, regulatory, and operational risks. This role involves partnering with leadership, compliance teams, and cross-functional groups to translate complex legal issues into practical recommendations. The position supports governance, decision-making, and responsible execution within a technology-driven environment.

Location: Remote (U.S. based candidates only; no visa sponsorship available)

Compensation: $166,800 – $225,600 annually

Responsibilities

  • Provide counsel on evolving user privacy and data protection matters
  • Investigate and analyze security and privacy incidents, leading regulatory responses
  • Support the incident response program across various business issues
  • Advise on data protection and AI/ML considerations in company projects
  • Review new product launches for compliance with applicable laws
  • Counsel engineering teams on security, threat intelligence, and abuse issues

Requirements

  • 1-3+ years of experience in product, security, or data privacy counseling or litigation
  • Broad knowledge of data privacy law, cybersecurity, and AI/ML technologies
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills tailored to diverse audiences
  • Strong business judgment and decision-making capabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration
  • Willingness to support incident response efforts outside traditional working hours
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to a U.S. state bar with a distinguished academic record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in data privacy laws such as GDPR and CCPA
  • Experience with incident response programs and SaaS platforms
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning technologies
  • Previous experience working with online companies as outside counsel
  • Knowledge of security frameworks like ISO 27001 or NIST
  • Understanding of cloud security principles relevant to legal advice in technology environments
