Overview
This role involves providing legal counsel to product, security, and privacy teams within a technology company. The position focuses on protecting user data, implementing privacy by design, responding to security incidents, and advising on responsible use of AI and machine learning technologies. The role will be filled at either the Associate Counsel or Counsel level depending on experience.
Applicants must be located within US Zones 2 or 3, defined by proximity to certain metropolitan areas based on zip code.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel on user privacy and data protection in a dynamic environment
- Investigate and assess security and privacy incidents, analyze legal responsibilities, and lead legal and regulatory responses
- Support the incident response program addressing a range of business issues beyond security and privacy
- Advise on cross-functional projects related to data protection, privacy by design, AI, and machine learning
- Review new products and features for launch readiness
- Offer sophisticated legal advice to engineers working on security, threat intelligence, and abuse issues
Requirements
- 1-3+ years of experience counseling or litigating product, security, or data privacy issues
- Broad knowledge of data privacy law, information security, cybersecurity, AI/ML, copyright, consumer protection, content regulation, and free expression
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills adaptable to different audiences
- Sound business judgment
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate and adapt in a dynamic environment
- Willingness to support incident response outside traditional business hours
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to a US state bar
- Distinctive academic record
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep expertise and passion for technology
- Experience working with SaaS, AI, or other online companies, either as outside counsel or in-house
- Experience counseling or managing an incident response or security program
Compensation
- US Zone 2: $166,800—$225,600 USD annually
- US Zone 3: $148,200—$200,600 USD annually
Salary ranges are subject to change and represent expected annual salary or on-target earnings (OTE) for sales roles only. Salary is one component of the total rewards package, which also includes corporate bonus programs or sales incentives and stock in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Individual starting pay considers job level, location, skillset, and peer compensation.
