Overview
This primarily remote role is available for candidates located in the states of Kansas and Missouri, with occasional required appearances.
The position involves representing the organization and its policyholders in moderately complex civil litigation and workers' compensation matters. Cases typically involve claims for monetary damages or compensation related to personal injury or property damage of moderate value. The role requires managing cases from inception through resolution under moderate supervision.
Responsibilities
- Manage all phases of litigation including discovery, hearings, trials, mediations, and drafting pleadings and motions.
- Support senior counsel in all aspects of case handling through trial preparation and management.
- Provide clear legal opinions and strategic advice to Claims Representatives and insured clients.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication.
- Utilize e-discovery and case management technologies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Coordinate effectively with remote team members and demonstrate proficiency in remote work settings.
- Identify and evaluate legal risks and collaborate on mitigation strategies with clients and senior counsel.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance of all legal documents and pleadings.
- Provide timely updates and recommendations to insured clients and claims professionals.
- Participate in initiatives to enhance efficiency and best practices within the legal organization.
- Uphold high standards of legal ethics and compliance, promoting integrity within the legal team.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the bar in Missouri and/or Kansas and in good standing; special licenses to practice before particular boards or federal courts may be required.
- General knowledge of insurance law, and as necessary, workers’ compensation and/or No Fault law.
- Proficiency with e-discovery, case management systems, and basic legal analysis tools.
- Strong analytical, research, and legal writing skills.
- Basic knowledge of negotiation techniques including preparation, active listening, and problem-solving.
- Demonstrated ability to manage cases from start to finish under supervision.
- Effective written and oral communication and persuasion skills.
- Ability to collaborate with clients, claims professionals, and senior attorneys.
- Organized, process-oriented with strong time management skills.
