Overview

This primarily remote role is based in the state of California, with occasional required appearances. The position involves representing the organization and its policyholders in workers' compensation claims of moderate value, providing legal services from case inception through resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of litigation including discovery, hearings, trials, mediations, and drafting pleadings and motions.
  • Support senior counsel in case preparation, management, and trial assistance.
  • Provide clear legal opinions and strategic advice to Claims Representatives and insured clients.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication.
  • Utilize e-discovery and case management technologies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Coordinate effectively with remote team members.
  • Identify and evaluate legal risks and collaborate on mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance of all legal documents.
  • Provide timely updates and recommendations to clients and claims professionals.
  • Participate in initiatives to enhance efficiency and best practices within the legal organization.
  • Adhere to legal ethics, compliance regulations, and licensing requirements.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the California bar and in good standing; additional licenses to practice before specific boards or federal courts may be required.
  • General knowledge of insurance law, with familiarity in workers’ compensation and/or No Fault law preferred.
  • Proficiency in e-discovery, case management systems, and legal analysis tools.
  • Strong analytical, research, and legal writing skills.
  • Basic negotiation skills including preparation, active listening, and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cases from start to finish under supervision.
  • Effective written and oral communication and persuasion skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with clients, claims professionals, and senior attorneys.
  • Organized, process-oriented with strong time management skills.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting salary range is based on skills, experience, education, certifications, and location.
  • Compensation plans may include commission and/or bonus earnings depending on role specifics.
