Overview
This role involves supporting the Probate Hearings Division Administrative Law Judges (ALJ) and Indian Probate Judges (IPJ) for both in-person and virtual hearings. The position requires applying specialized rules of practice related to the Department and the Office of Hearings and Appeals (OHA), managing case dockets, and monitoring case statuses.
Enrollment in this program is temporary and "at-will," meaning either the enrollee or the organization can terminate the relationship at any time. Enrollees are not federal employees nor employees of the administering organization; they participate in a grant program funded by a federal agency.

Responsibilities
- Administer oaths and conduct evidentiary hearings under judicial supervision.
- Support Indian Probate proceedings.
- Evaluate pleadings, testimony, evidence, and legal or procedural motions.
- Manage hearings and witness proceedings.
- Evaluate legal arguments and evidence.
- Conduct legal research.
- Draft findings, orders, and decisions.
- Implement and support modernization efforts.
- Make reviewable determinations on evidence admissibility, witness credibility, and other rulings.
Requirements
- Must be 55 years of age or older.
- Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in attorney roles.
- Active law license and current membership in the bar.
- Licensed and authorized to practice law as an attorney under the laws of any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
