Overview
This role is for an Attorney specializing in Bankruptcy to support the bankruptcy staff and clients of a full-service creditors' rights law firm operating across multiple states including Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Alabama, New Jersey, Kentucky, and Illinois. The firm also provides national bankruptcy, replevin, and loss mitigation services to institutional clients such as lenders, mortgage servicers, credit unions, banks, hedge funds, investors, and other financial services stakeholders.
The Attorney will report directly to the designated Supervising Attorney of Bankruptcy Operations and will carry a caseload. The position involves ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to default servicing.
Responsibilities
- Attend hearings and manage local appearance counsel hearings, ensuring all parties are prepared with clear instructions and coverage is maintained for all scheduled hearings.
- Provide immediate hearing results internally and to clients.
- Manage portfolios by updating internal and external systems of record within court deadlines, client service level agreements (SLAs), or internal deadlines.
- Ensure staff have updated drafting templates compliant with local, federal, district, and judge-specific rules.
- Perform quality control reviews of documents prior to submission to clients or courts.
- Monitor dockets to identify and escalate actionable events promptly.
- Ensure upstream and downstream processes comply with all deadlines and SLAs.
- Provide loan-level legal support to firm staff by answering questions, providing training tools, and drafting templates.
- Coordinate with leadership to identify opportunities for process and staff improvements.
- Act with integrity, energy, and commitment, embodying firm culture and maintaining consistency and stability through work ethic and conduct.
- Timely escalate, manage, and mitigate any legal risks related to the bankruptcy department.
- Provide loan-level support to clients by answering questions, communicating timely, providing training tools, and escalating process issues to leadership.
- Conduct legal research using vendor and firm tools, providing results and recommendations for training, technology, or process changes.
Requirements
- Active bar admission in the state of employment with good standing status.
- Admission or ability to gain admission to all bankruptcy courts within the state of bar membership.
- Experience representing creditors in bankruptcy proceedings in the relevant jurisdiction or willingness to acquire bankruptcy knowledge.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented and congenial manner.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask and adapt to continual change.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
