Overview
A Michigan-based law firm is seeking a California-licensed attorney with significant California state and federal court litigation experience for a contract engagement. This is a fully remote position requiring the attorney to work as part of a litigation team while handling assignments with minimal supervision. The role involves managing all aspects of civil litigation case workup, including written discovery, motion practice, hearings, and trial preparation.
The engagement focuses on a matter pending in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California involving issues at the intersection of land use and constitutional law. The expected duration is approximately six months, with an initial workload of 10–15 hours per week, increasing to 30–40 hours per week from mid-September through October to support trial preparation, trial, and post-trial activities.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of civil litigation case workup
- Conduct written discovery and motion practice
- Participate in hearings and trial preparation
- Collaborate with the litigation team while working independently as needed
Requirements
- Licensed to practice law in California
- Minimum of 6 years of legal experience in litigation
- Significant experience in California state and federal court litigation
- Experience with federal court matters, particularly in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong academic credentials
- Outstanding professional references
Position Details

Compensation and Benefits
- Annualized compensation ranges from $235,000 to $280,000 on a full-time basis
- Pay is based on experience, qualifications, credentials, and location
- W2 employment status with eligibility for full benefits when working 20+ hours per week
