Overview
A Cyber Claims Team within a specialty insurance group is seeking a self-motivated Claims Attorney to manage first and third-party claims, including class action litigation, under Cyber, Technology Errors and Omissions, and other professional liability policies. Location and Work Schedule
- Hybrid work schedule with office locations in Atlanta, GA; New York, NY; Encino, CA; and Chicago, IL.
- Remote work option available if the candidate does not reside near one of the listed offices.
Position Overview
The Claims Attorney will interpret coverage, collaborate with outside counsel and vendors, and analyze and resolve claims within designated authority limits. Responsibilities include investigating claims, analyzing liability and damages exposure, drafting coverage position letters, and developing resolution strategies for litigated and non-litigated claims. The role also involves determining probable loss exposure, establishing reserves, and maintaining claim files according to company policies. This position reports to the claims management team based in Encino, CA and operates with limited supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of the litigation process to minimize company risk.
- Analyze coverage issues, conduct investigations, and evaluate complex claims, coordinating with outside counsel as needed.
- Prepare and draft moderately complex legal correspondence.
- Maintain and update claim files.
- Communicate with agents, principals, claimants, and attorneys regarding claim status, information requests, and claim payments or denials.
- Attend court hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and trials as necessary.
- Assign claims to outside counsel, manage the process, ensure compliance with policies, and approve billing.
- Negotiate claim settlements, seeking approval for claims outside defined limits.
- Provide guidance to less experienced claims personnel, including reviewing settlement payments and denials.
Education, Licenses, and Certifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
- Licensed to practice law in the applicable state jurisdiction(s).
- Active adjuster license required in the state of residence or designated home state at the time of hiring or within six months of employment start (Grace Period), and must be maintained with continuing education.
- If not licensed at hire, must obtain an adjuster license in the state of residence or Texas within the Grace Period.
- Additional state adjuster licenses may be required based on business needs.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 to 5 years of relevant legal experience or 2+ years of relevant claims handling experience.
- Experience handling Cyber Claims.
Technical Skills
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Travel
- Up to 10% travel may be required.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range for New York, NY and Encino, CA locations: $115,000 - $188,000 annually.
