Claims Counsel - Remote
Overview
This role involves managing and resolving claims initiated under title insurance policies and related products. The position requires ensuring that accountable decisions are made at appropriate organizational levels, with decision-makers well-informed about legal risks. Experience in title claims or real estate is preferred, along with strong cross-functional communication skills and the ability to handle high-stress situations and a high-volume workload.
Responsibilities
- Manage and resolve claims under title insurance policies and products.
- Interpret internal and external business environments.
- Retain, monitor, and manage outside counsel and legal representation of insured parties.
- Negotiate settlements and claim resolutions with claimants, third parties, and opposing counsel.
- Handle a personal caseload including matters involving fraud, forgery, missed liens, access issues, easement disputes, and more.
- Identify and position resolved claims for recovery or salvage efforts.
- Perform specialized assignments, solve complex problems, and develop non-traditional solutions through sophisticated analytical thinking.
- Recommend best practices to improve processes or services.
- Impact achievement of customer, operational, project, or service objectives.
- Work independently as an individual contributor; may require guidance in highly complex situations.
- Occasionally travel to and participate in mediations, settlement conferences, claim conferences, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate degree.
- Licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
- Typically requires 2+ years of related work experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred.
