Overview

A consumer debt collections law firm is seeking a Collections & Creditors' Rights Attorney for a full-time, flexible contract engagement. This role is ideal for attorneys with experience in collections, bankruptcy, or civil litigation who want to manage a docket of consumer collections cases alongside other commitments or prefer a flexible work arrangement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a docket of consumer collections files from initial filing through judgment and collection efforts
  • Prepare and file pleadings, motions, and court documents in compliance with local rules
  • Appear at hearings, conferences, arbitrations, and trials either in person or virtually
  • Negotiate settlements and payment plans with opposing counsel and unrepresented defendants
  • Communicate with clients and manage case preparation remotely
  • Attend court appearances in the jurisdiction where licensed and assigned

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice in one or more of the following states: North Carolina, Tennessee, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Kentucky, or New York
  • Minimum of 2 years litigation experience, preferably with creditors' rights or debt collections
  • Working knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and relevant state collections and consumer protection statutes
  • Comfortable managing a high-volume docket and using e-filing systems
  • Strong research, writing, and advocacy skills
  • Ability to appear in person at local courts as required
  • Outstanding professional references

Position Details

  • Engagement type: Contract (initial term of 3 to 4 months)
  • Schedule: Full-time, approximately 30 to 40 hours per week
  • Location: Remote, with court appearances as needed in licensed jurisdictions

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annualized pay range: $150,000 to $190,000 (contract pay rates vary based on experience, qualifications, location, and other factors)
