Overview

This role involves serving as Commercial and Product Counsel to support and scale contract review and legal operations for a growing legal services provider. The position is remote and open to candidates based anywhere in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Build trusted relationships with customers by proactively communicating and understanding their business priorities
  • Review and negotiate commercial contracts; provide advice on product and privacy matters relevant to fast-growing technology companies
  • Collaborate closely with legal and product teams to efficiently and accurately process contracts
  • Interpret contract terms to identify key obligations, risks, and anomalies
  • Use internal tools to streamline contract review and partner with product and engineering teams to improve platform speed and accuracy
  • Identify inefficiencies and patterns in the review process and implement improvements
  • Standardize and document recurring contract types, review playbooks, and quality standards
  • Maintain turnaround times and service level agreements (SLAs)
  • Work with operations to evolve legal service delivery as the organization scales

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active bar membership in good standing
  • 5-8 years of legal experience, including significant work supporting technology companies
  • Experience as in-house counsel or sole legal counsel is required
  • Specialization in commercial, product, and privacy law
  • Customer-focused mindset: responsive, empathetic, low-ego, and committed to practical business advice
  • Strong process orientation with a focus on speed, quality, and consistency
  • Interest or experience with AI-assisted legal workflows
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and high-ownership environment
  • Solid grounding in professional responsibility and legal ethics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as the sole or first legal hire at a company, comfortable managing multiple priorities across the legal function

Success Milestones

  • Day 7: Onboarded onto tooling and workflows; independently reviewing client legal matters at quality standards
  • Day 14: Documented review playbooks for recurring contract types, privacy, and product inquiries; consistently meeting quality and turnaround goals
  • Day 30: Contributed to codifying contract review processes and product advice; helped establish standards for the team

Compensation & Engagement

  • Hourly rate: $100–$150, based on experience
  • Up to 20 hours per week, depending on business and client needs
  • Part-time independent contractor role
  • Opportunity to convert to full-time
