Overview
This role involves serving as the legal partner responsible for facilitating complex deals, translating legal language into clear terms, and providing strategic guidance to support responsible growth.
Responsibilities
- Understand the business model, key relationships, product offerings, and company history
- Learn how products are built, marketed, and scaled, and identify where legal involvement is necessary
- Familiarize yourself with relevant regulatory and compliance frameworks
- Adapt to the organization's working style, goals, mission, and values
- Build relationships with team members and stakeholders
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant commercial and corporate law experience
- Strong preference for candidates with in-house experience and negotiating with large corporations
- Admission to a state bar or eligibility to register as in-house counsel
- Curiosity and experience with generative AI tools or enthusiasm for legal technology innovation
- Ability to simplify complex legal concepts and communicate them effectively to diverse audiences
- Resourcefulness in researching and resolving legal questions using various tools and networks
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Contract Lifecycle Management tools such as IronClad or Zip
- Proven track record negotiating with Fortune 500 companies and startups
- Knowledge of privacy laws including GLBA and state-specific privacy regulations
