Overview

This role supports the Law and Regulation department’s Business Law division, advising the organization’s mobility data and telematics business unit (Arity) and its marketing solutions business on a wide range of commercial agreements, product counseling, and related matters.

The position involves providing strategic legal guidance at the intersection of law, business, technology, and data, particularly for advertising and marketing use cases.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time, strategic legal counsel across business matters including product development, marketing, sales, and emerging technologies.
  • Structure, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements, especially those involving advertising, marketing, and data service arrangements.
  • Advise on legal risk management and evolving regulatory landscapes in areas such as technology, commercial contracts, privacy, and consumer protection.
  • Collaborate across business units, policy, compliance, and legal teams to contribute to enterprise-wide strategies.
  • Anticipate legal issues and propose practical, innovative solutions in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and assess the impact of emerging laws or regulations on business activities.
  • Support alignment between business goals and legal frameworks in regulated industries.
  • Navigate ambiguity confidently and help shape emerging business models and opportunities.
  • Contribute to a culture of open dialogue and collaborative problem-solving across a distributed, virtual team.
  • Partner with product teams on new technology for mobile applications and related drive technologies, including rollouts or exploration of novel corporate structures.
  • Synthesize input from multiple legal experts and provide business-focused guidance in plain language.
  • Draft complex data licensing agreements and/or lead negotiation of commercial deals.
  • Lead implementation of compliance or risk mitigation plans in collaboration with other departments.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate and active bar membership in good standing.
  • Minimum of 7 years of legal experience, ideally within a law firm or the in-house legal department of a mid- to large-sized organization.
  • Proven expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Commercial law
    • Privacy
    • Advertising/marketing law
    • Technology
    • Artificial intelligence
    • Intellectual property
  • Experience working within a corporate parent company and across a family of affiliated entities.
  • This job does not have supervisory duties over individual contributors, contractors, consultants, and temps.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting a commercial business unit and/or professional experience beyond traditional legal roles.
