Commercial Underwriting Counsel (Remote/Hybrid)

Overview

A national commercial real estate services organization is seeking a Commercial Underwriting Counsel to join their growing New York team. This role supports national commercial transactions by providing underwriting support, legal counsel, and authorization related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies.

Responsibilities

• Provide underwriting support and legal counsel to company personnel and customers regarding real estate title insurance commitments and policies
• Utilize underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits to underwrite title insurance issuance
• Guide company personnel in performing real estate settlement services
• Issue underwriting standards and guidelines following established company processes

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (Law Degree) required
• Licensed and admitted to practice law in the state of employment, in good standing
• 5-7 years of title underwriting experience; commercial real estate experience preferred
• Familiarity with real estate law, including federal and state regulations
• Strong understanding of real estate title and settlement processes
• Strong analytical skills and business acumen
• Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to provide alternative solutions and communicate difficult information tactfully
• Ability to collaborate effectively and build relationships internally and externally
• Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and follow up in a timely manner
• Ability to think abstractly and develop creative solutions

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $97,700 to $130,300 annually
• Pay is based on factors including knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements, and geographic location
