Overview

This role involves managing the new business intake process with a focus on conflicts of interest and ethical compliance within a large law firm environment. The attorney will conduct conflicts analyses, advise on ethical obligations, and support the firm’s business intake procedures to ensure adherence to professional responsibility rules.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the new business intake process, ensuring thorough evaluation of potential clients and matters.
  • Conduct detailed conflicts of interest analyses using internal and external databases.
  • Draft and implement conflicts waivers and ethical walls as needed to resolve potential conflicts.
  • Advise attorneys and staff on ethical obligations and compliance with Rules of Professional Conduct.
  • Provide guidance and training on conflicts and business intake policies and procedures.
  • Participate in after-hours, weekend, and holiday on-call rotation for emergency conflicts checks and inquiries.
  • Maintain effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication to support collaborative work relationships.
  • Manage firm resources responsibly and comply with operational policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and admission to the Bar.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in conflicts management, ethical compliance, or related fields within a large law firm.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional responsibility rules and strong ethical judgment.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage complex information and make informed decisions promptly.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with PC and Windows applications; ability to learn new software and operating systems.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, shifting priorities, and sensitive matters with confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to adjust work hours as needed and willingness to travel if applicable.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with firm-specific software such as Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Effective organizational, troubleshooting, and planning skills.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and sound independent judgment.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary range: $170,000 to $225,000 annually, based on skills and experience.
  • Eligibility for a discretionary year-end bonus.

Location and Work Model

  • Position based in Los Angeles or Palo Alto.
  • Hybrid work model: Monday through Thursday in the office, with consideration for remote work from states where the firm has offices, provided the candidate works Pacific Coast Time.
